These days health, nutrition, and exercise are all that is talked about.
If everyone is talking about it, there must be something important to learn. Let’s start by looking at what nutrition actually is.
What is nutrition?
According to the dictionary “nutrition is the process of providing or obtaining the food necessary for health and growth”. I’m not sure about you but this sounds pretty important if you ask me.
If we want our bodies to function at optimum health then we must make sure we give it the correct food in order for it to serve us well. The food that we choose today will have a knock on effect of what our bodies will feel like tomorrow.
If you decide to sit around all day and eat deep fried chips the chances are that tomorrow your body might not feel so great and in turn, it won’t be able to do what you want it too.

Which foods constitute as being nutritious?
In order to know which foods are good for us we have to look at the recommended 5 food groups:
- Vegetables and legumes/ beans
- Grains (high in fiber)
- Lean meat, poultry, fish, eggs, nuts, and seeds
- Milk, yogurt, and cheese (low fat is always better)
The recommendation is that we eat a portion of food from each of the 5 sections each day, in the recommended daily amounts.

Final thoughts on incorporating good nutrition
Here are some great tips on how to implement more good nutrition in your diet.
Try to eat lots of different colors of fruit and vegetables. Greens are always going to be much healthier as they are high in nutrition but a mix will keep things fresh for you so you don’t get bored.
Go for whole grains where possible and try to avoid the “whites”. Brown rice, brown pasta, and brown bread are much better alternatives to eating the whites which give off quick releases in the body. These white foods turn to sugar quickly and will leave you feeling hungry again in no time.
