When you decide to make a lifestyle choice such as to get healthy you have to be able to commit without being wishy-washy about it.

You want to make sure that you start out with realistic goals.

There is no point in setting yourself up to fail in the first 5 days.

Someone who has been a couch potato for 6 years can’t just get up the next day and decide to run 5 miles.

It would be an impossible task, to say the least! With all the enthusiasm in the world, it just won’t happen.

Instead, be realistic about what you can actually do and set yourself positive goals that will put you in the path to achieve even bigger goals.

 

What is the winning formula if you want to get healthy and fit?

 

Today we are going to look at 11 simple lifestyle changes that you can make starting today to help you get healthy and fit without even realizing it.

1. The fridge makeover

This might just be the most difficult one to do. Not because it’s hard to give your fridge a makeover but because its hard to change your mindset.

Eating is the most difficult barrier to overcome because it has so much to do with how we have been raised and associate with food. Its what we know.

Finding a new way to eat and get healthy is hard.

Whilst you may be willing to makeover your fridge just know that it will take a while to get your mind around it.

The best way to tackle this would be to begin by phasing out 1 food ingredient at a time and introducing something else more healthy in its place.

This way you will still be able to achieve your goal without feeling as though you are being denied.

2. Invest in healthy snacks

This almost goes hand in hand with point number 1.

The more you choose healthy snacks the better it will be for your body. The more you begin to eat healthily the more you will see natural weight loss.

If you fill up your cupboards with the right types of food and get rid of the junk the easier you will make it on yourself.

When you are feeling peckish it’s going to be a lot easier to stick to what healthy if all the bad stuff is as far away from you as possible.

3. Switch to water

We made this switch some time ago and it was really hard to do at first because we were used to drinking a lot of cordial drinks and sodas.

Over time we fully moved over to drinking water and it was the best decision ever.

We do occasionally have the odd soda but water is definitely the go-to drink now.

Once you make the switch you can quickly begin to see how bad is it to have a dependency on sugary drinks.

4. Shop with a list

NEVER, I repeat NEVER go shopping without a shopping list!

I can’t tell you how important this is.

Supermarkets are very clever well thought out places. They are designed to get you to impulse buy.

It wouldn’t be so bad if they persuaded you to buy some extra carrots or some extra apples but no.

Unfortunately, they will get you to buy all the things you are supposed to be staying away from.

It’s best that if you are going shopping, do it with a shopping list in your hand. This way you can ensure you only stick to the essentials.

It will also help you save money too as you won’t be impulse buying any more. Bonus!

5. Make some additional new friends

This might sound strange but believe me its a solid piece of advice.

If you truly want to succeed at anything in this life, you MUST surround yourself with people of similar thinking.

If you look at all your friends you will notice that you are friends because you all have similar interests. You enjoy spending time together and you spurr each other on.

In the same respect, you will need friends who also want to make similar lifestyle changes as you.

These friends will help you to keep pushing at your goals until you succeed.

 

6. Go the long way around

Go the long way around is probably my favorite because we are a society who is always looking at ways to do things faster and getting there quicker.

Unfortunately flipping the switch on your health is quite the opposite, it requires you to go slowly in order to maintain your new lifestyle.

The purpose of “go the long way around” just means take an extra action instead of the short cut.

Take the stairs instead of the lift, walk an extra block before you catch the bus. It can literally be anything as long as it causes you to take an extra action.

 

7. Take up 1 new exercise

Implement at least 1 new exercise routine into your day. It doesn’t have to be anything strenuous, something gentle and light is just fine.

You can decide to take a walk to the shop after your meal, do a five-minute walk at lunchtimes or even 15 sit-ups each morning.

Even the smallest change in your fitness routine can make massive amounts of difference to help you get more healthy.

8. Resize your dishes

This one might cost you a little bit of money. If you own those supersize dishes that I have seen in some peoples homes, you need to replace them.

These dishes are great if you are having people over and are sharing a meal together but for everyday living, not so great.

There is logic in this, so just bear with me.

If you have a huge plate and you put food on it, yet you still see spaces, what are the chances of you automatically filling up those spaces?

Yep! You guessed it.

On the other hand, if you have a smaller sized plate you are more likely to have control of your portion size.

What are you still waiting for?

 

9. Don’t forget your rainbow

I love the rainbow, don’t you?

Well, the rainbow not only looks good in the sky, it also looks good on your plate too!

Eating different colored foods is really good for you. Green obviously being the best.

You don’t have to get all the colors on one plate but if you can add them throughout your day, you are doing a great job.

 

10. Never shop hungry

I have made this mistake so so so many times. You would think I have learned by now!

Never go to the shops hungry because if you do, you will reach for the first unhealthy snack that catches your eye.

You will convince yourself that it will only happen this once and that it’s not so bad.

Once you are full up with the bad stuff you will regret it.

Don’t tempt yourself, it’s just not worth it.

 

11. Add lemon ginger tea to your day

Lemon ginger tea is a really great drink to start off your day with. Not only is it good for colds, it’s actually really good for detoxing too.

This is a simple one to add to your everyday routine.

It’s painless. Do it.

12. Take the time to chew!

There is a very good reason for this.

When you take the time to chew your food properly you digest your food better, this also helps with maintaining your weight or weight loss.

When you sit down to eat a meal, from the moment you start, it takes 20 minutes for your body to send a message to your brain that it is full.

Let that sink in for a moment.

If you don’t take the time to properly chew and digest your food it’s quite possible that you could be overeating and not appreciating the food at all.

It’s easy for life to get in the way and to revert back to our old habits. By making changes slowly and being consistent at it you will be able to stay on top of your new lifestyle change.
